Make
a Difference Day
Held each year on the fourth Saturday of October
On Saturday, October 25, 2008, Volunteer McKinney Center will host their 10th annual national service day, Make A Difference Day sponsored by USA Weekend Magazine and Points of Light Foundation. We hope to again partner with local agencies and organizations to provide service projects for volunteers of all ages to complete in one day.
Make A Difference Day, a national service day, was created in 1992 by USA Weekend in partnership with The Points of Light Foundation as a unique program to challenge and reward volunteers. It is the nation's largest day of volunteering with millions of volunteers participating annually. Americans of all ages and all walks of life take action to help others on the fourth Saturday in October to make a difference in their communities.
Last year volunteers of all ages decorated holiday wreaths for Meals on Wheels clients, made greeting cards for MADD volunteers and nursing homes, and gift bags for hospice patients. Individual volunteers and volunteer groups worked on service projects at Chestnut Square Historical Village, North Texas Job Corp, Boys and Girls Club, etc.
Projects for the 2008 Make A Difference Day will be listed online by late August and volunteer registration for participation on these projects will begin in September. For more information about this event contact VMC at volunteermck@sbcglobal.net or 972-542-0679.
Funding is Needed
Without the support of local businesses and citizens, Volunteer McKinney Center could not facilitate an event like Make A Difference Day. Sponsorship opportunities are available and needed for this event and will be accepted at anytime.
