Make a Difference Day
Held each year on the fourth Saturday of October

On Saturday, October 24 2009, Volunteer McKinney Center again participated in the annual national service day- McKinney Make A Difference. For eleven years VMC has partnered with several organizations, businesses, churches , schools and volunteer groups through out the community to complete service projects the 4th Saturday of October.

Over 300 volunteers gathered at several locations to volunteer their service to make a difference in their community. Over 100 volunteers of all ages met at the craft area to sew pillows for Visiting Nurses Association's hospice patients, make craft projects for local nursing home residents, sort and package gift boxes for local military and stuff bags for Children and Community Health Clinic.

Other volunteers were involved with projects at ManeGait Therapeutic Horsemanship, Chestnut Square Historical Village, Heard Natural Science Museum, Kingsley Place Assisted Living, North Collin County Habitat for Humanity and for the City of McKinney.

A local scout troop gathered at the Community Food Pantry to sort and stock 18,000 cans of vegetables and fruit collected the prior week by 18 different schools in McKinney for the McKinney Make A Difference Day canned Food Drive.

The Chamber of Commerce Leadership program took the lead in completing a major home rehab project for the City of McKinney and Volunteer McKinney H.E.A.R.T.H. program. Because of their hard work a family have a more comfortable and safe envirnoment to live.
